Elizabeth Waggett

Within the sanctum of her studio, Elizabeth Waggett's meticulous understanding of materials, honed through her design education, instils in her work a tactile feeling. Originally from the UK, Elizabeth is now based in Texas USA and France.

Harnessing the transformative power of artistic creation, she navigates themes of feminine strength and resilience, offering a space for healing through trauma within the evocative narratives woven into her artwork.

Through her meticulous studies of wildlife, Elizabeth navigates the delicate balance between representation and abstraction, employing scale to elicit responses that unsettle and provoke contemplation.

“I believe that the materials I use are crucial to my creative process and the outcome, and there is nothing quite like working with Saunders Waterford® from St Cuthberts Mill. I am inspired by its history and dedication to its heritage, each sheet carries a sense of craftsmanship that resonates with me. The paper is incredibly versatile. It accepts anything from graphite, ink, charcoal, or gold leaf beautifully, enhancing every element of my work.”

Drawing inspiration from traditional Victoriana patterns, her artistic lineage is rooted in her British heritage, infusing the work with a sense of cultural identity and historical continuity. Central to Elizabeth’s work is the incorporation of 23-karat gold leaf, a symbol of deeper meaning beyond mere decoration.

“For my hand-embellished editions that feature gold leaf, I favour Somerset® paper. I adore how the gold leaf sits on this paper, and the elegant hand-deckled edges elevate each piece into a luxurious experience. I take pride in offering my collectors not just a work of art, but a luxurious product with a rich story.”

Elizabeth has exhibited at galleries worldwide, including New York, London, Paris, Los Angeles, Abu Dhabi, Basel, Miami, Hong Kong, Zurich, and Brussels.
