Franc Tortosa

Franc Tortosa was born in Barcelona (Spain) in the 80's, from his first steps he discovered his admiration for painting by surrounding himself with the large family art collection, with works by great Spanish Masters of the 19th century.

Since 2005, he has taken up residence in the paradise island of Tenerife, where he has developed a fresh style and a firm brushstroke, making his energetic and determined character very clear.

Franc Tortosa has been an outstanding student of great Australian and English watercolour masters, demonstrating an innate talent for mastering this centuries-old water-based technique.

Being one of the most popular and promising new contemporary Spanish watercolour artists, with his works of urban, marine and landscape themes, where his images of Venice, London or Paris particularly stand out.

He is currently a member of the prestigious American Watercolor Society (AWS) and the International Watercolor Society Association (IWS Spain), having received multiple awards in painting contests at international level, participating in watercolour biennials in Italy, France, United States of America, Canada and China among others.

Opinion about watercolour painting and Saunders Waterford:

"Watercolour is the most practiced pictorial technique in the world, it is painted from simple school notes to great works of art, its great spontaneity makes watercolour the most honest and satisfactory technique that I have practiced in my life."

“It is a privilege for me every time I face a clean sheet of Saunders Waterford, I feel before me, hundreds of years of good traditional English work, being forced to stain with my first pencil strokes of my next watercolour work”.
